La Jolla is a great place for enjoying the outdoors and a beautiful landscaping. Because of the mild climate and moderate temperatures a variety of plants are able to grow from tropical to drought tolerant plants. There are literally thousands of plant & trees they will grow here. Most people unfortunately rely on their landscape maintenance company do their landscape installations. Would you hire your house keeper to design your homes interior? Obviously not. It takes a experienced knowledgeable designer who has an artistic eye for design, color, textures, etc to really make your landscaping look amazing. Most people do not realize how many planting options there are available to them. Their are literally hundreds. Look to find a landscape designer who is a horticulture expert who is passionate about what they do. Many homeowner also don't realize how good their landscaping can look. It is worth it to hire a qualified & talented landscape designer to do a 1 or 2 hr consultation before you do any work. It is well worth in investment. Often I see homeowners try to design their own yard and choose the plants & placement from their limited knowledge. Remember a good landscape designer is a expert. It takes years of education, research and knowledge to know what they know. Plants and trees all have different needs such as amount of light/shade, water, fertilizer, and temperature. A another problem I see is people use plants that get to big for the area. They don't realize how bid the plant will get and often becomes overgrown and has to be removed later.
